5 Tips for Dealing With Crepey Skin

Crepey skin has a thin, wrinkled surface resembling crepe paper. It tends to impact larger areas, and this skin feels noticeably more fragile and thin.

The bad news is that this can happen to many of us as we grow older - the good news is that there are several ways in which we can make a difference in reducing the appearance of and preventing crepey skin!

Tip #1: Lead a healthy lifestyle with healthy food!

Eat a healthy diet that is colorful and rich in antioxidants.

A diet that is high in sugary packaged foods (not natural sugars in fruits) can damage collagen and elastin fibers.

Tip #2: Use Retinol all over your body

Many people manage to put retinol on their face but are missing out by only putting it on their face!

You should already be putting retinol on your neck, back of the hands, check and even arms as these areas are constantly exposed to the sun! However, many people miss out by not taking things to the next level and putting retinol all over their body.

Most people can't afford to put the same retinol product that they put on their face all over their body because it would cost much. As a result, it can be a good idea to invest in a tub of moisturiser with retinol in it and lather it all your body before bed.

Tip #3: Use a glycolic acid moisturiser

Moisturising regularly is really important BUT its more effective to use a glycolic acid moisturiser when trying to prevent or treat crepey skin!

Many people are so happy with results from glycolic acid. I personally was very surprised with the phenomenal results I have seen when people start using glycolic acid moisturiser to treat crepey skin as I assumed it would not compete with retinol - however, you have to try it and see the results for yourself.

So hit up the store and purchase a body moisturiser with glycolic acid in it and see if it helps you reduce crepey look. And if you don't have crepey skin, then this can be a great way to prevent the development of crepey skin.

Tip #4: Stay away from the sun

The most common cause of crepey skin is exposure to Ultra Violet Rays so minimise your sun exposure.

Wear sunscreen indoors and outdoors - 365 days a year - rain, hail or shine.

Also, don't forge to cover up when out and about in the sun. Pop a scarf on to protect your neck. Wear a long sleeve shirt when possible. Wear long pants when possible. I know you want to wear a bikini on the beach but that is going to wreck havoc on your skin in the future!

 Tip #5: Quit smoking!

Maybe there is no fountain of youth, but there is a surefire way to make yourself look older. The best way to look old and haggard is by smoking!

Not to mention smoking increases your likelihood of developing crepey skin. This is because smoking reduces immune responses and causes damage to collagen and elastin thereby interfering with the integrity of the skin and leading to crepey skin!
